Themis Halvantzi-Stringer
London is a very exciting and vibrant place to live. There is something new everyday and as a Blue Badge Tourist guide I have to constantly update my knowledge and information. London is not just theatres and restaurants. There are lots of hidden corners, new food markets, interesting buildings, new exhibitions and galleries to explore.
I trained as an archaeologist I consider the British Museum my spiritual home. I can create tours for different civilisations represented in the museum, from Ancient Greece and Rome, to Egyptian mummies, to Babylonian reliefs. Experience incredible artefacts such as Queen Pu-Abi's gold crown, wonderful Islamic textiles and the tablets referring to the Biblical Flood. There is a tour and a culture to suit any interest.
I am very interested in art and can guide such art collections as the National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, or as we Londoners call it - the V&A, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Wallace Collection to name but a few.
I am also qualified to guide in the Palace of Westminster, or more commonly know, Houses of Parliament. The tours in this historic building take place on Saturdays and selected dates of the year so if you are interested please contact me for further information.
I have trained to work with people with Learning Difficulties and was awarded the relevant qualification from the European Network for accessible Tourist. Please see the website http://www.t-guide.eu/?i=t-guide.en.certified-t-guides for more information.
I love walking tours, it is the best way to experience a city and take the best pictures! The Olympic Park walk in the newest public park in London - The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with some of the world's best sporting facilities, modern buildings and contemporary art. The City of London walk visiting the City area where Roman Londinium was first established. Food Markets and Silk Weavers exploring the culturally diverse Spitalfield area.
Is there a museum or gallery you are interested in and I have not mentioned? A walking tour or site you would like to visit? Contact me and we can make the necessary arrangements. Let me help you see London in a different way!
