Sue Jackson
I specialise in guided walks in Spitalfields - about the Huguenots silk weavers in particular, but also as a focus of immigrant settlers - the Jews, Irish and Bangladeshi. I also specialise in art gallery visits - The National Gallery of Art, National Portrait Gallery, both Tate Britain and Tate Modern, the Courtauld Institute, the Wallace Collection, Dulwich Picture Gallery. Another area of specialisation is garden tours, ranging from gardens of the City of London, to Kew Gardens, the Kyoto Gardens as well as the gardens of the Cotswolds, Kent and Sussex. I lead guided walks around London, for both the public and private groups, on a very wide range of themes - legal London, Jack the Ripper, the Square Mile, Spies' London, Shakespeare's and Dickens' London, Royal London. the Cabinet (Churchill) War Rooms, Parliamentary London and Westminster, Highgate Cemetery, pub walks, Borough Market and the Globe Theatre, Greenwich, the East End, Docklands, the Olympic Park, Canary Wharf, British Museum, the Museum of London, the John Soane Museum, King's Cross, Little Venice, the Regent's Canal, the Christopher Wren churches, St Paul's Cathedral, familiarisation walks of an area, Covent Garden, Soho, Marylebone, and many more! I love putting together walks and visits at short notice.and guiding bespoke, off the track walks for families and small groups. I also give illustrated talks to a variety of audiences such the National Trust, decorative and fine arts societies (NADFAS - now the Arts Society) and U3A, historical societies, etc.. I run courses at the National Gallery of Art ('Getting to Grips with the National Gallery'), and the walks course the 'The Quartiers of London' (development of London area - how for instance Bloomsbury differs so radically from St James's and Soho is so different from Mayfair....) for the City Literary Institute.
