Sarah Wood
Having grown up in a small town that is not quite east, not quite north or south and not quite the Midlands, I can still remember the thrill of discovering London as a child. Decades on and after umpteen years as a Blue Badge guide and educator, I still can’t believe my luck that my job is to share this incredible city with you. And one of the things I promise to do when guiding is to put myself in your shoes. (Please make sure they’re comfortable). • Are you parents or grandparents wanting to stimulate curiosity in your children? • Are you a teacher from the UK or further afield wanting your students to learn beyond the classroom? • Are you an academic wanting a visit to enhance an aspect of your curriculum? • Are you a DMC who wants someone flexible and experienced who will know where to slot into your programme? • Are you teaching students English and need a tour pitched to their level that will stimulate their interest. • Are you retired and can’t remember how you found time to work because there’s so much out there to do? • Or are you just looking for an engaging guide who’ll introduce you to London, make it fun and tell you good stories? To paraphrase Dickens my knowledge of London is extensive and peculiar – in a good way. Like all of my colleagues, we are guides for our great attractions such as the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, St Pauls cathedral, Windsor Castle and the British Museum where I am also a member of the events team. I have a Masters degree in Education in Museums and Galleries from University College London and am a former teacher of English and French and love all kinds of writing from classic to contemporary, children’s to detective fiction. Over the years I have been asked to do bespoke tours that have become part of my guiding portfolio, from fashion and shopping to London Remembers by way of Industrial London to London in Song. So it’s always worth asking. So if you want a tour to matter and to enrich your time in London, do get in touch.
