Janet Robinson
Hello,
I'm Janet, an award winning Blue Badge Tourist Guide in England's amazing capital city, London.
Born and brought up just outside the capital I have been visiting since I was a small child. It fascinated me then and continues to fascinate me today.
My background is in medicine and education. First training and working as a staff nurse for twenty years and then spending a number of years in
primary schools, supporting children with learning difficulties, so I consider myself to be a real people person!
Among my main interests are the First and Second world wars and how these terrible conflicts affected the lives of men, women and children in London and beyond.
I can take you on a tour of the fascinating Churchill War Rooms in Westminster, where you will learn how much of the war was directed from the rooms and corridors below ground.
Or I can accompany you on a tour of the newly refurbished WWI and WW2 galleries within the Imperial War Museum, where stories unfold by way of archive film, artefacts and personal testaments.
I can also lead walking tours of Westminster or the City of London (Square Mile) looking at where relevant events occured, seeing many poignant memorials including the Cenotaph in Whitehall and hear tales of bravery during 'The Blitz'.
Of course no trip to London would be complete without a visit to the iconic Tower of London. Join me for a tour to hear stories of Kings, Queens, prisoners, escapees, torture and execution. Included in your visit will be a self guided tour of the priceless Crown Jewels, used just last year for the coronation of King Charles III.
On another royal note, why not visit the home of coronations, Westminster Abbey, scene of not just coronations but also the burial and weddings of royalty for almost 1,000 years. Here you will also see many tombs and memorials to the great and the good of the UK from politicians, scientists, poets, and engineers to actors and the ever poignant Tomb of the Unknown warrior.
In the heart of the City of London stands the UK's only domed cathedral, St Paul's, a particular favourite of mine. So I was thrilled at the end of Blue Badge training to receive the coveted 'Best Guide at St Paul's Cathedral' award in 2016. Very different from the Abbey, why not join me on a tour of its vast, beautiful interior and not only learn about its history but discover the St Paul's of today.
As well as the above I guide at many of London's galleries and museums, including the British Museum, National and Portrait Galleries and Tate Britain, along with many other walking tours, including, Highlights of the Square Mile, Royal London and 'Heroes and Villains!'
So whether it's your first visit to London and you would like a general highlights tour or you want something more in depth, please contact me and Come for a Walk!
