Jane Brand
I trained as a Blue Badge guide 25 years ago after working in the travel industry, travelling extensively and part-timing as a translator/interpreter. Living abroad for 7 years I realized how much variety Britain has to offer and still feel enthusiastic about helping visitors discover the attractions of this small island.
My background is an Honours degree in Art & Architectural History and I have guided extensively in galleries and museums – which are these days far from the dusty old places they once were, as tv documentaries show us. In this respect Scotland has some of the UK’s most spectacular collections of art and objects as well as spectacular palaces and castles.
I am interested in gardens and gardening; history; architecture; music and dance both classical and contemporary; geology and ecology. Walking and kayaking are my preferred physical activities, which I put to use in exploring the lesser-known corners of the country.
After many years in London I am now living in Edinburgh - always my second home – where I guide incentive groups, independent travellers and lead mainly Scottish extended tours, often with a focus on gardens. I also occasionally undertake work in and around London but not day work. Moving to the Scottish capital in 2016 has really opened my eyes to how much beauty there is in the built and natural environment north of the Border!
