Hello! I am Jae-Eun Yang, a London Blue Badge Tourist Guide.

I was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. I studied Education at university and soon after graduating, took a trip to London to visit my sister – and never left! It’s been 30 years since I’ve lived here now, and in that time, I dabbled as a sound engineering student, before working for many years in a bank, which later progressed into a career in the sales department at the British Standards Institution. Since then, I’ve turned to tour guiding, showcasing this wonderful city that I am able to call home.

I started tour guiding by chance, thanks to a recommendation from a friend. It turned out to be more enjoyable and rewarding than anything I’d done before. With the desire to become a better guide, I went on to earn the London Blue Badge Guide qualification and haven’t looked back since.

I truly enjoy the opportunity to spend a day with my guests and helping them foster memorable experiences during their visit. I’ve hosted private, small group and package tours, VIP events, and interpretation services, and would love to tailor the perfect trip for you.

Over the years of building a career, family and life in London, I feel that I’ve formed a uniquely multicultural identity. I am proud to embrace both Korean and British cultures and, through that, create a third culture that I can share with others.

안녕하세요! 런던 블루뱃지 가이드 양재은입니다.

저는 대한민국 서울에서 태어나고 자랐습니다. 한국의 대학에서 교육학을 전공했고 졸업 후 런던에 정착했습니다. 그리고 어느덧  이곳에 산지도  30년이 되었습니다. 처음엔 그저 신기하고 낯설기만 했던 이국땅이었는데 학생으로서, 직장인으로서, 지역사회 일원으로서 그리고 엄마로서 다양한 역할을 하며 또 수많은 시행착오를 겪으며 살다보니 지금은 런던을 자연스럽게 집이라 부르게 되었습니다. 영국에서는 사운드엔지니어링을 공부했습니다. 은행원으로서 오랜 시간 근무했고 이후 영국표준협회에서 세일즈매니저로 일했습니다. 봉사를 통해 나름 지역사회에 기여하고자 했고 가정에서는 엄마로서의 삶을 열심히 살았습니다.  그렇게 런던에 살면서 제 나름대로의 정체성이 형성된 듯 합니다. 영국에 사는 한국인으로서 두 나라의 문화를 포용하고 나누면서 제 3의 문화를 창조하며 살고있다는 생각을 합니다.

우연히 지인의 추천을 계기로 가이드를 시작하게 되었고 그동안 했던 어떤 일보다 재미있고 보람을 느껴 더 좋은 가이드가 되어보자는 마음에 영국 공인가이드 자격증인 런던 블루뱃지 가이드 자격까지 취득하게 되었습니다. 설레는 마음으로 여행오신 손님과 하루를 보내고 그 설레임이 아름다운 추억으로 바뀔 수 있도록  도울 수 있다는 것이 저는 너무 좋습니다. 그동안 프라이빗투어, 소규모그룹투어, 패키지투어, VIP의전, 행사, 통역 등 다양한 임무를 수행했으며 새로운 영역의 일이라도 배우며 도전하자는 것이 제 소신입니다.

역사적 사실은 인터넷 검색만으로도 얼마든지 알 수 있습니다. 기계적인 사실의 나열보다는 저만의 방식으로 이곳의 역사와 문화, 예술과 자연을 함께 나누고자 합니다. 여러분의 소중한 시간을 아름다운 추억으로 만들어 드리겠습니다.
