Jackie Freshfield
Hello and welcome to London! I can’t wait to share its world-famous landmarks and off-the-beaten-track treasures with you.
London is packed with fascinating history, stunning architecture, art and music, with many must-see museums and galleries and, of course, the world-renowned theatres, concert halls and restaurants – and so much more. It’s my home city and I love showing it off to visitors, not just its UNESCO world heritage sites but the surprising gems – the tiny pub frequented by Charles Dickens, the ancient church that escaped the Blitz, a surprising view of St Paul’s, that special antiques shop and many more...
I guide individuals, families and groups and my style is relaxed and easy-going: no two tours are the same. It’s important that clients feel ‘looked after’, entertained and informed. There is so much to see and do in London, just tell me your interests and I can put together a tailor-made itinerary for you. Perhaps you’d like a fun but informative tour of London’s highlights, or an in depth visit to Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral or the Tower of London? I can also show you the highlights of the British Museum, take you on a walk around Westminster and perhaps visit the famous Churchill War Rooms, or help you discover the history of Bankside or Spitalfields. If you are into art then why take a tour of the National Gallery or National Portrait Gallery? It’s surprising how much can be revealed about a painting (or a subject) – even one you are familiar with. Or why not take a Christmas lights tour, now that we are counting down to the festive season?
Easy day-trips from the city include Henry VIII’s palace at Hampton Court, or Windsor Castle where you can visit the final resting place of HM Queen Elizabeth II, or why not take a trip down the river to Maritime Greenwich – one of my favourites.
Before becoming a Blue Badge Guide I worked in book publishing, promoting authors such as Ian Rankin and Julian Fellowes. I also edited the famous Book of Guinness World Records. I then moved into the classical music industry. I love history and have a History degree from the University of Warwick (which comes in handy in a 2000-year old city!). My hobbies include choral singing and photography – I appreciate the importance of getting the perfect photo of a London icon, and I know some good spots for unusual photos too!
