Cheryl Cates
Born and bred in Norfolk on the East coast of England I spent my childhood discovering the country churches and grand country houses for which it is renowned. But my father was a Londoner and he introduced me to his home town on regular visits to the capital, and I was hooked. That initial excitement I experienced discovering the secrets of this amazing city has never waned since I moved to greater London in 1979. After a 40-year career in public service as a senior manager, working primarily in law enforcement, I was awarded the MBE in 2017for my contribution to equality and diversity, supporting staff with disabilities. At the end of my career, I pursued my ambition to qualify as a London Blue Badge Guide, qualifying in 2020 and I would love now to share my knowledge and passion for London with you. I have extensive experience of government. My working life was public facing and I enjoy working with people of all ages and abilities. Happy to do coach tours of London, but also to work with smaller groups and families for guided walking tours and site visits. If it’s your first time in London and you want to get the most out of a of a short visit I can guide you on foot around Westminster, the heart of government and home of royalty, and a tour of sites including St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, the National Gallery or the British Museum. If you are a regular frequent visitor and are looking for something different, I can show you somewhere new such as London’s East End or Canary Wharf.
If you fancy some time out of the City, I can offer tours of Windsor, Hampton Court , Salisbury, Stonehenge, Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon and Canterbury
I am a Member of the Institute of Tourist Guiding (MITG) and also a member of the British Guild of Tourist Guides and the Association of Professional Tourist Guides. My interests are reading, listening to classical music, watching rugby and travel
