Caroline Powell
After a long and rewarding career in teaching I have retrained as a tour guide and am ready and waiting to introduce you or reacquaint you to our exciting and always surprising capital city.
I can lead you on tours of the British Museum, gazing up as we cross the breath-taking Norman Foster designed Great Court, introducing you to some of the huge collection of the 80,000 artefacts on display, as varied as the 5C BC Elgin Marbles, to the 4C AD Mildenhall Treasure and the 7C AD helmet of Sutton Hoo. Perhaps you want a bespoke tour of the latest exhibition- this can be arranged easily.
I love other London Museums such as the Wallace Collection, hidden in a beautiful London Square close to Selfridges, or the V&A in South Kensington. I never tire of gazing up at the Raphael Cartoons, the Great Bed of Ware or a copy of Shakespeare's First Folio on display in the Theatre and Performance Gallery. A visit ends perfectly with a visit to the William Morris Refreshment Room for a cup of tea and a slice of cake!
Still in London there are endless opportunities for a close up look at St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, The Tower of London, The National Gallery or Kensington Palace. If you fancy trips further afield I can take you to Windsor Castle, Hampton Court, Canterbury and Oxford to name just a few. Or if putting on your walking shoes is more your requirement, I can lead you on walks around London, and this includes the City of London, the Square Mile, where we can cover themes that include The Highlights of the City; Wren's Churches in the City; Roman London; London's Burning; Pepys' London; Slavery and the City and plenty more.
Do contact me to discuss your requirements- I hope to pass on my enthusiasm and knowledge of our fascinating and historic city, leaving you determined to return for more!
